Antarctic Film Festival

6:30PM - 8:45PM

About

An unforgettable evening of storytelling from the coldest place on Earth. The New Zealand Antarctic Society is proud to invite you to a curated selection of captivating short films from the heart of Antarctica. This engaging programme blends stunning documentary footage, curated by award winning filmmaker Anthony Powell, that reveals the continent’s stark beauty, unforgiving conditions, climate change, and penguin antics with stories captured by inventive and funny entries from the Winter International Film Festival of Antarctica’s 48-Hour Challenge, an annual showcase of creativity and resilience from those who winter-over on the Ice. But before the movies, Rob Teasdale will share his adventurous story from the Ice. He has clocked over two decades tackling extreme engineering challenges, from grooming snow at Mt Hutt to ten seasons in Antarctica keeping deep field science on track. A master of heavy equipment traverses and “getting things done,” he’s just returned from helping the Australian Antarctic Program set up a remote ice-core research station to unlock over a million years of climate history.
